Thrive on Less Evil: Stop Celebrating What Destroys You

Every year, millions of people prepare for Halloween with excitement—decorating homes with skeletons, ghosts, witches, and blood. Costumes of demons, murderers, and monsters fill the streets. But few stop to ask: what are we really celebrating?

The Hidden Roots of Halloween

Behind the smiling pumpkins and candy lies a dark history. Halloween began as a pagan festival—Samhain, an ancient Celtic ritual where people believed the dead walked among the living. Fires, sacrifices, and spells were used to protect villages from spirits and demons. Over time, this evolved into a global celebration of fear and death, rebranded as “fun.”

Yet make no mistake—what was once a night of evil spirits and witchcraft still carries that same energy. The costumes, the horror movies, the decorations soaked in blood—they all glorify darkness and desensitize hearts to what is unholy.

The Normalization of Evil

We live in a society where evil is now entertainment. People pay to watch demonic possession, murder, and torture on screen. They dress as killers and laugh at what once terrified generations. The devil doesn’t even have to hide anymore—he’s being celebrated.

The tragedy is not that people don’t know—it’s that they no longer care. The human heart has become numb. When people parade as witches or demons, they unknowingly mock God and invite spiritual darkness into their homes.

Evil Is Real

Let’s be clear—evil is not a myth or a movie plot. It walks among us. Rapists, murderers, and psychopaths exist—and yet, every October, people imitate them for fun. It’s as if humanity wants to flirt with danger, pretending it’s harmless.

But the truth is that evil doesn’t play games. Demons are real. They prey on curiosity and disguise themselves as harmless fun. Scripture warns us:

“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” — 1 Peter 5:8

Evil doesn’t come with horns and red eyes. It often comes dressed as pleasure, popularity, or excitement. But its goal is always the same—to destroy.

The Call to Wake Up

Many souls today are asleep—living monotonous lives, chasing thrills to feel alive. Halloween gives them that spark of adrenaline, a moment to break from boredom. But what they don’t realize is that by feeding on fear, they are slowly starving their spirit.

It’s time to wake up. To “thrive on less evil” means turning away from false celebrations and filling our hearts with light instead of darkness. It means teaching our children that fear is not fun, that pretending to be demons is not innocent, and that evil—real evil—should never be invited into our lives.

Replace Fear with Faith

Instead of celebrating death, celebrate life. Instead of glorifying horror, glorify hope. Pray, give thanks, share love, and protect your home with truth and light. Evil loses power when exposed.

“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” — Romans 12:21

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Open our eyes to the truth.
Help us to see beyond the masks and the decorations,
To recognize the spirit behind the celebration.
Guard our hearts and our homes from evil influence,
And let Your light shine brighter than any darkness.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
