A 3-Part Series
Part 1 – The Jezebel Spirit in American Culture
From the earliest pages of Scripture, we see how sin twists God’s design. In 1 Kings 16, Jezebel enters Israel’s history—a woman who uses manipulation, power, and rebellion against God’s order to bring corruption to an entire nation. Her name has since become synonymous with destruction and pride.

Today, the same spirit manifests in modern feminist ideology. It tells women that motherhood is bondage, that family is outdated, and that true purpose comes only by competing with men.
But this path mirrors Jezebel’s rebellion. It undermines God’s plan for family, encourages selfish ambition, and ultimately weakens society. As Revelation 2:20 warns: “You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess… By her teaching she misleads my servants.”
Modern examples of the Jezebel spirit:
- The sexual revolution of the 1960s that redefined womanhood as freedom from marriage and motherhood.
- The abortion industry, which celebrates the destruction of life in the name of “choice.”
- Pop culture icons who glamorize promiscuity, rebellion, and dominance over men.
But rebellion never leads to flourishing. It leads only to broken homes, fatherless children, and societies in decay.
Part 2 – The Proverbs 31 Blueprint for Womanhood
Against the dark shadow of Jezebel, Scripture gives us a radiant alternative—the Proverbs 31 woman. She is wise, industrious, nurturing, respected, and above all, God-fearing.
Proverbs 31:30 says: “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”

Unlike Jezebel, the Proverbs 31 woman uses her gifts not for manipulation but for creation:
- She builds her household with diligence (Proverbs 31:27).
- She nurtures and raises her children, who call her blessed (Proverbs 31:28).
- She supports her husband, strengthening the family unit (Proverbs 31:11–12).
- She extends her care to the poor and needy (Proverbs 31:20).
Historical examples of godly womanhood:
- Susanna Wesley raised her children in prayer and Scripture, and her sons John and Charles Wesley led a revival that changed nations.
- Sarah Edwards, wife of Jonathan Edwards, nurtured 11 children, many of whom became pastors, educators, and leaders.
- Countless unnamed mothers and grandmothers have faithfully passed down faith and stability, preserving families and communities.
Godly womanhood is not weakness. It is strength rightly ordered. It is not silence, but wisdom. It is not oppression, but freedom rooted in God’s purpose.
Part 3 – Restoring the Family to Restore Society
History proves that the rise or fall of nations is tied to the strength of their families. The Roman Empire crumbled when family structures collapsed. America faces the same threat today: skyrocketing divorce, plummeting marriage rates, and over 18 million children growing up without fathers.

When women abandon their God-given role, the home—the foundation of society—crumbles. But when they embrace it, generations are blessed.
Titus 2:3–5 instructs older women to teach the younger to:
“…love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.”
This is not oppression—it is divine design. Families flourish when women and men live in their God-ordained roles. Children thrive when they see mothers and fathers united. Nations grow strong when the family unit is honored.
Practical ways to thrive on less modern feminism:
- Restore honor to marriage and motherhood.
- Encourage mentorship among older and younger women in the church.
- Support policies and community efforts that strengthen families, not tear them down.
- Teach children the beauty of God’s design for men and women.
Galatians 6:9 reminds us: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
The harvest will come when families are restored, women embrace their high calling, and society thrives again under God’s order.
Closing Exhortation
Thrive on less American modern feminism. Thrive on more godly womanhood. For in God’s design—not the world’s lies—we find life, strength, and a future for generations to come.
